Tokyo, Japan / Cambridge, Massachusetts – Fast Track Initiative (FTI) joins in celebrating Professor Shimon Sakaguchi, Scientific Founder of RegCell Inc., one of our portfolio companies, who has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
Professor Sakaguchi, Distinguished Professor at Osaka University and Director of the Immunology Frontier Research Center (IFReC), was recognized for his discoveries concerning peripheral immune tolerance, including the identification of regulatory T cells (Tregs) and demonstrated that the Foxp3 gene is the master regulator of Treg development and function.
RegCell, founded on Professor Sakaguchi’s discoveries, is developing an autologous cell therapy platform that reprograms CD4⁺ T cells into stable, functional regulatory T cells (S/F-Epigen Tregs) through epigenetic modification. These disease-antigen-specific Tregs are designed to re-establish immune tolerance and offer curative potential for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
In March 2025, RegCell announced the establishment of its U.S. entity to support its global expansion, positioning the company to bring Treg-based therapies from Japan into international clinical development. (Endpoints News coverage).
