Metagen Therapeutics, Inc. (President and CEO: Taku Nakahara, PhD, MBA; Headquarters: Yamagata, Japan; hereinafter referred to as “MGTx”) has completed a multi-center clinical study in collaboration with Juntendo University under Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW)’s Advanced Medical Care Program B. The study evaluated a combination therapy of antibiotics and fecal microbiota transplantation (A-FMT) for patients with active ulcerative colitis (UC). The trial, which enrolled 37 patients, was officially completed as of August 20, 2025.
The study achieved 70.3% response rate and 45.9% clinical remission rate, meeting its primary endpoint. No serious adverse events were reported, supporting a favorable safety profile. These findings reinforce the potential of A-FMT as a therapeutic option for UC, an indication with continued unmet medical needs.
