NovAccel, a Japan based company developing the compact superconducting accelerator “RiSA” for medical radioisotope production, has completed a JPY 1.2 billion (approximately 7.5 million USD) post-seed financing to advance infrastructure supporting next-generation cancer treatment. The round included participation from Fast Track Initiative, Inc. (FTI) alongside existing investors UTEC, DCI Venture Growth Support Investment Fund, AtoX Co., and Yoshida Co. Hiroko Kimura, Principal at FTI, will join NovAccel as an External Director.
NovAccel is focused on establishing a stable, scalable supply of actinium-225 (Ac-225) for medical use, supported by its compact superconducting accelerator technology. Ac-225 is a critical input for targeted alpha therapy programs in oncology, but global supply constraints have limited broader development and clinical adoption. The company’s approach centers on building reliable production infrastructure and feedstock sourcing to support consistent Ac-225 availability for radiopharmaceutical R&D and, over time, commercial use.
Proceeds from the financing will be used to strengthen NovAccel’s international procurement framework for radium-226 (Ra-226) feedstock, a key raw material for Ac-225 production, and to accelerate investment toward completing its medical radioisotope production facility within the year. Through these efforts, NovAccel aims to help establish a stable, scalable supply system for Ac-225, a radioisotope facing global supply constraints.
Hiroko Kimura commented: “NovAccel is a unique startup bringing together experts across physics, medicine, and business, grounded in superconducting electron accelerator technology developed through Japan’s high-energy physics expertise. By taking on the challenge of supplying pharmaceutical raw materials from a foundational ‘technology seed’ in accelerator science, NovAccel is poised to create meaningful impact in the market. In particular, addressing the Ac-225 supply challenge is highly significant as it supports the foundation of next-generation healthcare, and we are pleased to support the company on this journey.”
